Egyptian Society of Virology (ESV) was founded in 2000 in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. It promotes the exchange of information in the domain of virology and stimulates collaboration between virologists in Egypt and internationally. ESV hosts an international conference every 2 years, and organizes seminars, workshops, and meetings on significant and emerging topics in the field of virology. The society also coordinates scientific research, dispatches proper knowledge to the community, and provides advice to the decision makers.

ESV is a multidisciplinary organization that provides a forum for all investigators on viruses of medical, veterinary, and plant importance. The main scope of ESV is to promote the advance in the art and science of virology and to stimulate virology education and training to all levels of beginners and specialists. ESV also encourages collaboration and information exchange with the different national and international scientific societies in virology and relevant fields of science. The administrative office of ESV is currently located in the Department of Virology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt.
